An array of Chinese ports have shut business temporarily due mainly to heavy smog in recent days, affecting delivery of major bulk commodities like thermal coal, coking coal and iron ore.

Qinhuangdao port, the busiest coal transfer hub in northern China, announced to close operation from 21:45 pm on November 28 till 7:50 am on November 29. It may delay handling and shipment of thermal coal bound for southern ports.

Jingtang port, was also shut from 1:00 am to 4:20 am on November 29, in order to avoid danger in rather smoggy weather.

In Jiangsu province in eastern China, lots of ports were closed as well. Zhangjiagang port remained shut from 0:24 am to 15:45 pm on November 29.

Besides, Zhenjiang, Taizhou, Nantong, Changshu and Taicang ports in Jiangsu also remained shut, while traffic has resumed at Jiangyin, according to some sources.

Heavy smog has drove port authorities to take restriction measures on a section of the Yangtze River since November 26, and two container ships' colliding on the same day also played a significant part in traffic control.
