Zhejiang Province plays major role in China’s import trade xinde marine news 2018-11-01 09:59

East China's Zhejiang Province, a member of the economic circle of the Yangtze River Delta, has played an important role in the country's import trade.

The Ningbo-Zhoushan port in the province lies at the meeting point of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It is the busiest port in China, with 249 sea routes linking with more than 600 harbors around the world.

It handled 1 billion tons last year, becoming the first port in the world to reach such a volume.

Goods unloaded from vessels at the port will be delivered across the country. As one of the country's economic powerhouses, the Yangtze River Delta comprising Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang is a largest client.

In 2017, about 30 million tons of iron ore were transported to Jiangsu Province via the port, accounting for 28 percent of the total amount that the port handled last year. A total of 60 percent of grain unloaded at the port was transported to Jiangsu.

The port also launched sea-rail transport services, with 12 trains providing services to 42 cities in 15 provinces in China as well as countries in central and northern Asia and eastern Europe.

As the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) is about to open on Nov. 5 in Shanghai, more than 100 companies in the cross-border e-commerce pilot zone in Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang Province, joined in the trade promotion group of Zhejiang, so as to discuss cooperation with enterprises from across the world at the expo.

With the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, customs clearance procedures in Hangzhou, Shanghai and Ningbo have also integrated.

The cross-border e-commerce products at the pilot zone come from more than 70 countries and regions in the world, with registered goods being in more than 30,000 categories.

Thanks to the import expo, the next few years will be the prime time for foreign goods to enter China, and will bring an upsurge in the consumption of imported goods.
