China imports record amount of coal in July xinde marine news 2018-08-14 14:12

China imported a record amount of coal in the month of July to cope with the robust demand by electricity generation due to high temperatures, according to the General Administration of Customs (GAC).

This is a new record in four years and a half.

GAC data show China's coal import soared by 49 percent to more than 29 million tons in July, the highest monthly import since January 2014.

The value of the monthly coal import surged about 63 percent year on year to almost 17.9 billion yuan.

Increased imports boosted the inventories at port, driving down the prices of power coal. The latest Bohai-Rim power coal price index, the country's benchmark power coal price, closed at 567 yuan per ton on August 8, the same as in the previous week.
