10 New Container Ships Ordered in One Day — A Major Leap Forward for Jiangsu’s Homegrown Shipping Powerhouse xinde marine news Chen Yang 2025-05-29 09:49

On May 28, Jiangsu Port Group and its shipping arm Jiangsu Ocean Shipping (JOSCO) made waves in China’s maritime industry by signing two major contracts totaling 10 container vessels, adding over 20,000 TEU in new capacity.

In the morning, JOSCO inked a 3+1 ship contract for 3,000 TEU vessels with SOHO Technology Development.

In the afternoon, a 4+2 ship deal for 1,900 TEU vessels was signed with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and CSSC Trading.

These landmark agreements signal the group’s firm commitment to building a regional shipping champion aligned with China’s “Maritime Power” strategy and Jiangsu’s “Water Transport Province” vision.

“This marks a strategic step toward transforming Jiangsu Ocean Shipping into a leading homegrown carrier that can support the province’s global trade ambitions,” said Chairman Dai Wei of JOSCO.

Beyond boosting capacity, the deals reflect broader goals of industrial collaboration, supply chain integration, and the rise of state-owned synergies in shipbuilding, port logistics, and overseas trade.

As China’s major port and shipping hubs evolve rapidly, this development deserves attention from anyone following the future of Asian maritime logistics.
