PIL Launches Coastal Relay Service in China! xinde marine news Chen Yang 2024-07-19 08:46

We are thrilled to report that Pacific International Lines (China) Ltd. (PIL ) has successfully launched its first "Coastal Relay" service. This milestone shipment involved 20 containers of cypress logs aboard the vessel "Kota Lestari," transported from Shanghai Port to Qingdao Port. With this launch, PIL becomes the third foreign liner company to offer this service in China, following Maersk and CMA CGM.

What is Coastal Relay? Coastal Relay allows eligible international container liner companies from foreign countries, Hong Kong, and Macau to use their fully-owned or majority-owned non-five-star international vessels to conduct foreign trade container transshipment. This transshipment occurs between Yangshan Port in Shanghai and other ports such as Dalian, Tianjin, and Qingdao, using Yangshan as an international hub. This service, which began as a pilot at Yangshan Port in May 2022, represents a significant breakthrough in China's integration of domestic and foreign trade as well as in the international shipping sector.

Benefits and Growth: Since the implementation of Coastal Relay, Yangshan Customs has adopted an institutionalized approach to solve enterprise challenges, attracting companies like Maersk and CMA CGM to adjust their transshipment routes from Busan and Singapore to Shanghai Port. The Customs have enhanced coordination among Yangshan and the northern ports, streamlined the process for transshipment cargo clearance and inspection, and provided dedicated services for business inquiries and transshipment declarations. Additionally, they have actively promoted policy awareness and conducted surveys to assist companies in optimizing route networks and handling "one-stop" qualification applications and vessel registrations.

Mr. Zhang Yongjie, General Manager of PIL's Procurement Department, remarked, "Using the Coastal Relay model, the transit time for goods has been reduced by an average of 7-20 days. This helps us optimize our route network, lower overall logistics costs, and provide more convenience for our operations under new market conditions."

Impressive Statistics: In the first half of this year, Yangshan Customs processed 7,784 Coastal Relay transactions, totaling 49,000 TEUs, marking year-on-year increases of 2.1 times and 1.1 times, respectively.

We look forward to leveraging this innovative service to enhance our operations and provide better solutions for our customers.
