Taicang port delivers 443,000 containers in May xinde marine news 2018-06-28 15:29


The amount of containers delivered in Taicang port saw growth of over a quarter year-on-year in May, ranking first for growth among the main ports in China, according to an announcement by the management committee of Taicang port.
 
The port handled 443,000 containers, of which 268,000 were handled through the port's domestic shipping routes, an increase of 28.4 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.
 
In May, Taicang port launched a route to Southeast Asian countries, reaching Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh, Laem Chabang and Haiphong, and Bangkok, capital of Thailand, with three more ships expected to sail to these countries every week to satisfy the increasing shipping demand from local foreign trade companies.
 
As more shipping routes serving Southeast Asian countries are available at the port, its capacity to serve the Belt and Road Initiative has been further improved. A total of 60,000 containers were delivered through these routes in May, up by 31.2 percent year-on-year.
