World's largest container ship sets sail from Nansha China Daily 2023-07-21 09:29

The OOCL Turkiye vessel, one of the largest container ships in the world, left Guangzhou's Nansha Port ready to embark on the brand new Far East to Europe route, local media outlets reported on July 17.

This vessel measures over 389 meters long and 61 meters wide, with a carrying capacity of 235,000 metric tons. It is able to accommodate over 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), which is more than 10 times that of regular container ships.

The vessel is carrying a wide range of cargo, including small household appliances, clothing and food. It will primarily serve regions along the Belt and Road, passing through Southeast Asia all the way to Germany.

Nansha Port has been continuously optimizing its port business environment, aiming to create a high-level gateway hub for international opening-up, further facilitating the smooth flow of international trade channels.

The operation of this vessel is expected to enhance Nansha Port's container transport capacity. In addition, this new Far East to Europe route will bring more convenient and efficient trade transportation options to countries and regions along the way, thus promoting economic exchange and development.
