More than 4,700 vehicles were loaded onto a ship — the Grande Mirafiori — on Tuesday at the automobile terminal in Dalian, Liaoning province.
"It set a record for Dalian Port for a single shipment of foreign trade commodity vehicles," said Jin Zhaoxing, assistant general manager of Dalian Automobile Terminal Co.
Jin said the commercial vehicles on the vessel were mainly new-energy models and will be transported to Europe.
In the first 10 months of this year, Dalian Port has handled a total throughput of more than 49,400 commercial vehicles, an increase of nearly 20 percent year-on-year.
The port has developed a sophisticated collection and distribution system that can meet the requirements for the berthing of all types of roll-on/roll-off ships. The annual throughput of the automobile terminal exceeds 800,000 vehicles.
