As Hong Kong re-opens to the world, the staging of 47 separate events held over seven days makes Hong Kong Maritime Week 2022 the most spectacular in its six-year history.

Organized by the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board with the support of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, and Hong Kong Maritime Museum, and partnered by Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council.

The highly anticipated Hong Kong Maritime Week (20-26 November 2022) is designed to illuminate exciting developments in the industry that will be key to its future sustainability.

Chief among these developments, and the driving themes of Maritime Week, are those concerning Maritime Technology, Digitalization, Green Shipping and Decarbonization.

During Maritime Week these themes will be explored from multiple perspectives through various unique sessions organized by local businesses and trade organizations.

Among the several thematically dedicated events registered there are half-day meetings such as the “Technical Seminar on Green Shipping and Maritime Technology” (26 Nov.). For delegates with busy schedules there are also brief but incisive hour-long sessions including: “Blue Economy and Maritime Decarbonization” (24 Nov.), and “Technical Decarbonization Through Operational Excellence” (22 Nov.).

High value-added maritime services

Both the national and Hong Kong governments have declared their support for the development of high value added maritime services to ensure the territory’s premier maritime centre status. The importance of of ship finance, ship management, marine insurance, and maritime law and arbitration is also reflected in the myriad activities being led this year by leading exponents in their fields.

Delegates have the chance to see maritime arbitrators in action at the “Mock Arbitration” (25 Nov.), catch up with the latest legal developments at “Maritime Law Updates” (22 Nov.). Meanwhile, visiting delegates to Hong Kong may want to know “Why Resolving Maritime Disputes in Hong Kong” (21 Nov) is the way to go.

“The Important Elements of Adequate and Suitable Marine Insurance” (24 Nov.), and Practical Aspects of Marine Hull Insurance Claims – Total Loss and Sue and Labour Charges will tell delegates all they need to know about risk transfer and the actions required to achieve a successful outcome.

Ship finance will be an aspect of a multi-faceted examination of marine activity at the 4th Annual Capital Link Maritime Forum (21 Nov). Hong Kong is a dominating force in ship management and this year will feature along with related aspects of the global supply chain at the two-day signature event Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (22-23 Nov).

Port & Logistics

With plans being made to upgrade the Port of Hong Kong to “Smart Port” status, a visit to “Knowledge Transfer Forum on Smart Maritime Business” (23 Nov.) is a must for a preview of the potential of smart business to transform cargo operations.

Even the smartest technology and the greenest engineering can’t guarantee shipping’s sustainable future without the necessary personnel. Hong Kong Maritime Week this year offers a platform for nine forms of introduction to a potential career in maritime.

Career and Education

Those looking to pursue higher academic qualifications in supply chain studies can discover a route through simply honing their gaming skills at “Fun Education Articulation Game Booth for Maritime Studies” (26 Nov.) Career-minded delegates could be “Exploring Shore-based Careers of the Maritime Services Industry (24 Nov).

This is just a taster of the multifarious themes and activities filling a packed week from 20 to 26 November. For details of all events and how to register visit www.hkmw.hk
