SPG wins Green Port Award System award for third time SPG 2022-10-31 10:49

The APSN (APEC Port Services Network) Forum on Safe and Inclusive Pandemic Recovery of the APEC Port Industry kicked off on Oct 18. It was co-hosted by APSN and the Philippine Ports Authority, and was held both online and offline.

Li Fengli, general manager of Shandong Port Group (SPG), on behalf of SPG, attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech.

During the event, APSN announced the winners of the GPAS (Green Port Award System) award for 2022. The Lannan Berth #15 of Lanshan Port at Rizhao Port, a subsidiary of SPG, won the award. This is the third time for SPG to win such an award, while the first two winners were Qingdao New Qianwan Container Terminal Company in 2019 and Qingdao Port Dongjiakou Ore Terminal Company in 2020.

SPG has been advancing green and smart development over the years. Since its establishment on Aug 6, 2019, SPG has stayed committed to the development philosophy of "green mountains and lucid waters are invaluable assets", and strengthened top-level design. The group has given top priority to the construction of a smart and green port, and draw up plans for promoting the top-level design of SPG's smart and green port construction.

Additionally, SPG has taken the lead in the country in unveiling green and low-carbon port development plans during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25). Great efforts have also been made to promote shifting freight transport from roads to railways, sea-rail combined transportation and clean energy utilization, and increase input in environmental protection.

SPG has proactively built itself into a home port for offshore wind power in Shandong, a demonstration port for the comprehensive smart energy sector, and a green demonstration port for cargo peaking and carbon neutrality. It has accelerated the expansion of clean energy such as hydrogen, solar, renewable energy and other resources.

SPG is a pioneer in the port industry as its has constructed the country's first hydrogen refueling station, employed hydrogen-powered trucks and hydrogen-powered rail-mounted gantry cranes. In 2021, the rate of its clean energy utilization accounted for 55.2 percent of its total, an increase of 14 percent over the three previous years.

Taking the optimization of transportation as its core in terms of green development, SPG reduced carbon emissions of 1.7 million metric tons via pipeline transportation in 2021. The proportion of railway, waterway and pipeline transport accounted for 76.2 percent of its overall transportation last year.
