Save 30 days! Jiangsu opened first Arctic Ocean route Xinde Marine News Vivian Xu 2022-10-28 17:21

On October 27, "MONCHEGORSK" departed from Lianyungang Container Terminal. It will pass through the Bering Strait and cross the Arctic Ocean to St. Petersburg, Russia, marking the maiden voyage of the Arctic Ocean route of Lianyungang Port.

It is understood that the route is the "Taicang - Lianyungang - St. Petersburg" route of Unitrans Group which is also the first Arctic Ocean route launched by Jiangsu Province. A 650 TEU icebreaker will be used in the initial operation.

In the past, goods transported from Lianyungang to St. Petersburg needed to go through the China-Russia route, transfer at Haishenwai, and then arrive in St. Petersburg by rail transport, which took about 60 days. Lianyungang Container Terminal has promoted the St. Petersburg route, reducing the logistics time from the original 60 days to the current 30 days. It also takes about two weeks less than the conventional route through the Suez Canal.
