China's freight volume up 11.7 percent in January-August CCTV 2022-09-29 09:28

China's freight volume increased by 11.7 percent in the January-August period compared with the same period in 2019, which provides a solid guarantee for promoting stability of the industrial and supply chains and for stabilizing the broader economy, a senior official with the Ministry of Transport said on Wednesday.

At present, the national transportation network is in smooth operation, and the main logistics indicators have continued their stable and sound performance, said Shu Chi, spokesman for the Ministry of Transport, at a press conference in Beijing.

"From January to August this year, the freight volume of the whole society increased by 11.7 percent compared with the same period in 2019. Of the total freight volume in the first eight months, the volumes of railway freight, road freight, waterway freight and postal express business increased by 18.1 percent, 11.2 percent, 10.1 and 83.5 percent respectively over the same period of 2019. Key hubs have fully resumed work and reached full production capacity. On September 8, the daily container throughput at the Shanghai Port exceeded 160,000 TEUs for the first time, and the cargo and mail throughput at the Pudong Airport in Shanghai and the Baiyun Airport in Guangzhou increased by 82.7 and 38.1 percent over the beginning of May," he said.

In the future, China will continue to strengthen the transportation of essential goods such as foreign trade supplies, coal for electric power generation, and major materials for grain production, and will make every effort to meet the demand for the transportation of supplies to epidemic-hit areas, such as medical prevention and control supplies, people's livelihood supplies, and important production supplies.
