Tianjin Port opens new RCEP route to Southeast Asia CCTV 2022-07-25 09:40

Tianjin Port officially opened a new ocean route to Southeast Asia on Saturday, the third one launched by the port this month for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement member states in the region.

The route is expected to further boost the maritime trade between the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region and the RCEP member states along the route.

The new route will connect Tianjin Port with major ports in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, all RCEP member countries, and five or six cargo ships will run on the route.

The other two new RCEP routes from Tianjin Port were opened on July 6 and July 14, respectively. With these routes, cargo ships run everyday between Tianjin Port and major ports in Southeast Asia, and the shipping time from Tianjin to those countries is shortened to nine days at most.

"The successful launch of the route will further enhance the container route network starting from Tianjin Port, and the maximum cargo ships running between Tianjin Port and Southeast Asian countries every day could reach six," said Xie Shushan, transit market development manager of Tianjin Port Co., Ltd.

The RCEP agreement, the world's largest free trade agreement, came into force on January 1, 2022. It covers 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its five free trade agreement partners, namely China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
