A well-known figure in Asia-Pacific maritime and financial circles, JJ will be responsible for managing MSI's activities in the Asia Pacific region from its Singapore base. This includes regular contact with MSI clients, guiding regional strategy, building brand awareness and marketing MSI's services in the region.

In addition, JJ will contribute to MSI's monthly and quarterly range of research and forecasting publications as well as the provision of valuation services and bespoke research and consultancy projects.

The continued expansion of activity in Asia-Pacific naturally includes China but has also grown over time to serve all North Asian markets as well as more owners, charterers, investors, and banks in Southeast Asia, South Asia and Australasia.

“Research and forecasting is a process in which clients need trust and to understand how a partner like MSI can support them over the long term with reliable data and market insights,” says JJ. “MSI's forecasts and analysis are systematically back-checked and we have a track record of accuracy better than a range of alternative forecasting methods.”

As the maritime and offshore industries engage with the long-term energy transition, MSI is the only consultancy forecasting ship earnings, opex and asset values out to 2050.

“The days of players simply working out their strategies on spreadsheets are coming to an end, with the MSI online platform providing a complete view across supply and demand at the macro and micro levels, with an increasing focus on the ramifications of regulatory compliance,” adds JJ.

Before joining MSI, Wang’s diverse career saw him work at companies including CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard, Lloyd's Register, Royal Bank of Scotland, Gibson Shipbrokers and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia with spells in Shanghai, Busan, London and Hong Kong. JJ is a fellow of The Royal Institute of Naval Architects; a fellow of The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology; a liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, a member of The Baltic Exchange and a Freeman of the City of London.

In 2018, Jianjun published Ship Market Trend which explores shipping's critical indicators. He donated all profits from the sale of the book are to seafarer charity, The Sailors' Society. JJ holds a BSc in Naval Architecture from the Wuhan University of Technology and an MBA from Southern Columbia University.
