On the morning of June 27th, the State Council Information Office held a press conference on the progress of logistics maintenance. Zhao Chongjiu, deputy minister of the Ministry of Transport, introduced the current situation of Chinese seafarers.

By the end of 2021, there were more than 1.8 million registered seafarers in China, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%. Among them, there are more than 620,000 seafarers on international ships, more than 230,000 seafarers on domestic ships, and more than 950,000 seafarers on inland ships. The scale of Chinese seafarers is constantly expanding, which can adapt to the development needs of the current shipping market.

In terms of crew change, the Ministry of Transport actively took measures to prevent and control the epidemic situation of ship crews. The vaccination rate of Chinese seafarers has reached 94%.

Since the establishment of a special crew change team on December 31, 2021, the Ministry of Transport has coordinated and resolved the issue of crew changes for 234 international voyage ships and 5,142 crew members.

Since April 1, 2020, a total of 422,000 crew changes have been completed on ships of international voyages (79,000 in 2022), and an average of more than 500 crew members have changed shifts at domestic ports every day, during which no epidemic spread occurred.

In the next step, the Ministry of Transport will continue to escort the safe navigation and decent work of the crew, accelerate the construction of a high-quality crew team, and serve the high-quality development of shipping.
