CORE POWER launches Client Program to bring 'new nuclear' to maritime Xinde Marine News 2022-06-14 13:28

A new Client Program launched by Core Power will bring together ocean transportation, clean energy production and technology development companies, to help deliver the next generation of energy solutions for tomorrow's shipping industry.

CORE POWER, with offices in London and Washington D.C., will offer members the opportunity to participate in the important work to shape national and international regulations and scope requirements for nuclear powered green fuel production. The Client Program will provide a forum for leading industry experts to solve the unique new challenges posed by deep decarbonization of the maritime industries.

‘Leaders in the shipping industry have come to realize that decarbonization promises and net-zero pledges are more complex to develop and deliver, and that the answers to true-zero emission ocean transportation will inevitably involve new forms of nuclear technology,’ says Mikal Bøe, CEO of CORE POWER in London.

‘Combining new nuclear as a small mass-assembled energy source with excellent environmental and safety credentials, with shipyard construction techniques and floating power solutions, means that instead of building a reactor every 10 years, we can build 10 or more in a year. The Client Program will demonstrate how this is done and the tangible benefits it will have for our industry’,  Bøe adds.

The program kicks off with two open meetings via video for all interested parties on July13th. The first meeting will be for participants in Asian time zones (in the morning UK time)  and Europe and Americas in the afternoon.

The CORE POWER Client Program features a monthly release of unique analyst briefings, as well as monthly technical, regulatory, and modelling update meetings. Three times a year CORE POWER will organise in-person industry gatherings in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Each meeting will include participation from regulatory task forces, technical working groups as well as engagement for members with commercial, economic and finance working groups.

‘Nuclear is a true-zero emission technology in need of a mass-market, and maritime is a market in need of a true-zero emission technology. The combination of maritime and advanced nuclear is inevitable and members of our Client Program will participate in how that future is shaped,’ Bøe concludes.
