Chinese ports report growth in cargo, container throughput in May CCTV 2022-05-27 10:10

Major ports across China showed growth in cargo and container throughput in May, according to the data released by the Ministry of Transport on Thursday.

Major ports in China handled 790 million tons of cargo in the period from May 1 to May 24, up 4.2 percent month on month and down 0.7 percent year on year. During the same period, the country's container throughput rose 5.4 percent month on month to 17.69 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), according to the official data.

The daily average container handling by ports in the Yangtze River Delta reached 254,700 TEUs in the May period. The figure represents a 4.4-percent rise month on month and a 0.4-percent decline year on year.

The ministry has step up efforts to strengthen interregional coordination between the ports in the Yangtze River Delta, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to better ease congestion and ensure smooth movement of vessels.

The ministry has also implemented close-loop management in ports to reduce the risks of infection among staff.
