Qingdao automated port terminal sets new global record SPG 2022-03-23 11:17

Qingdao Port of Shandong Port Group (SPG) achieved average efficiency of 52.7 drops of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per hour for single crane on March 12, setting a new world record for the eighth time, according to news released by SPG.

Qingdao Port is home to Asia's first fully automated container terminal, and is the second-largest foreign trade port in China. Different from traditional ports powered by manual labor, the fully automated container terminal uses only robots and machines to load and unload shipping containers.

Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread around the world, which has negatively impacted the global shipping industry. Qingdao Port has responded to SPG's call for implementing the regular epidemic prevention and control policies, and ensuring smooth operation of the port, which have in turn boosted the healthy development of Qingdao Port, according to official data.

SPG has made significant progress toward becoming a world-class smart and green port, which is expected to aid the country's new dual-circulation development pattern, thanks to sophisticated technologies.

This year, SPG will make continuous efforts to stick to the innovation-driven development pattern, and accelerate its green transition pace by building a hydrogen refueling station to supply clean energy for its operations. Efforts will also be made to build it into a green demonstration port, which will help achieve the goals of peaking carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality.
