Orient Overseas Container Line received the “Hong Kong Sustainability Award” in the large organization category at the HKMA 60th +1 Anniversary Celebration / Hong Kong Sustainability Award Presentation Ceremony for 2020/21 on December 14, 2021.

Organized by the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA), a leading professional organization in the city, the Hong Kong Sustainability Award aims to promote the importance of sustainability and to provide a platform for organizations to benchmark best practices of sustainability. By recognizing organizations which have demonstrated outstanding sustainability practices in economic, social and environmental aspects, while achieving good business and organizational performance, the award program also advocates cross-sector sharing of best practices and inspires organizations to entrench sustainability within their operations and culture.

OOCL has long been committed to sustainable business practices and sustainable development. The company is delighted to receive this further public recognition of its efforts in this hugely important field.

The company has consistently taken a leadership role in advancing sustainability, through implementing numerous initiatives to address environmental and business challenges.  These include enacting operational measures to reduce bunker fuel consumption, investing in the latest fuel-efficient engine and vessel-design technologies to power its ships, and establishing a governance structure that includes sustainability at its heart.

Furthermore, OOCL is at the forefront of developing the application of advanced artificial intelligence to enhance operational efficiency and broader business practices.   This approach will achieve multiple goals: reducing costs, achieving a positive environmental impact, and enabling the provision of better services to its customers worldwide.

In an era of unprecedented health challenges, OOCL’s efforts in ensuring the health and safety of its onshore and offshore staff, customers, and the global community are also recognized by the award.

OOCL will continue to strive for excellence in corporate sustainability, for the sake of the international community and for a better future for all.
