Ningbo Zhoushan Port announced a 10% increase in terminal charges xinde marine news Sarah Yu 2021-12-02 17:18

On December 1, Ningbo Zhoushan Port announced the "Ningbo Zhoushan Port Foreign Trade Import and Export Container Port Charge List (Version 202111)", which will be implemented from January 1, 2022.

According to the list of charges published by Ningbo Zhoushan Port before, the charging standards for terminals are as follows:

After this adjustment, the charging standards are as shown in the figure below:

In other words, the adjustment of charges for loading and unloading of 20-foot and 40-foot empty and heavy containers has achieved an increase of about 10%.

In principle, this charge increase does not need to be submitted to the authority for approval.

Terminal charges at Chinese ports are already at a relatively low level. The increase in charges this time is the result of the forces of internal and external factors.

From the perspective of internal factors. First, the current strict control measures and environmental protection requirements increase the cost of port construction and operation. The second is the increase in the prices of labor, infrastructure, and raw materials. The third is the sudden increase in the cost of epidemic prevention.

In terms of external factors, it is expected that the container shipping industry will achieve an amazing profit of 150 billion US dollars in 2021. This has also spilled over to related markets such as freight forwarding, ship chartering, container leasing, and container building. The relevant parties of the whole chain, except the port, have made a lot of money.

If we hope that the entire supply chain will operate steadily in the face of sudden incidents and severe market fluctuations, it will be everyone's common choice for shipping companies to transfer part of the dividends and go hand in hand with the port.

Some Chinese ports have been aware of the charge increase of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, and may follow up in due course.
