UNCTAD said on August 10 that data for the second quarter of this year showed there were 939 cargo ports worldwide receiving regular shipping services. Shanghai, China topped this year's list of the world's 50 largest ports in terms of direct transportation between ports.

The data shows that from the perspective of degree centrality, Shanghai ranks first among the world's 50 largest ports, with 288 direct ports, while Kaohsiung, Xiamen, Xingang, Nansha, Yantai and other Chinese ports all rank among the top 50.

Major European ports are better connected than major Asian ports in terms of indirect centrality, while Asian ports are better connected by degree centrality criteria.

The best direct port group is Ningbo-Shanghai, with 52 shipping companies offering direct sailing, followed by Port Klang - Singapore, Busan - Shanghai and Shanghai - Qingdao.
