OOCL offers insight into impact of virus on liner shipping in China xinde marine news 2020-02-12 14:14

Hong Kong-based liner shipping firm, OOCL has offered its view on the current situation in China as it battles the coronavirus and how the liner company is coping.

OOCL reveals that most container terminals in China are in normal operations, the most notable exceptions being Shanghai, Tianjin and Ningbo, where there have been specific challenges in handling the flow of reefer containers due to the huge demand for reefer sockets on shore.

For OOCL, crew replacement has been suspended until further notice. Home leave has been postponed for crew currently serving on OOCL vessels, who are also subject to restricted shore leave in Chinese ports and the ports of other countries subject to local requirements.

Also, in China, personnel wishing to board an OOCL vessel are subject to temperature checks before permission to board is granted.

All crew members have been instructed to wear protective masks at all times when operating at each port of call.

Of the more than 30 local offices owned by OOCL in China, 17 have now re-opened as of yesterday (10 February).
