Guangdong to build up a whole industry chain for offshore wind in 2020 xinde marine news 2019-11-18 16:14

China's southern coastal province of Guangdong will complete a whole industry chain for offshore wind in 2020, from parts manufacturing, inspection, transport to installation, which will reach up to a total output value of 30 billion yuan ($4.28 billion).

On November 12, General Electric (GE) held an opening ceremony in Jieyang city, Guangdong province, for its first offshore wind turbine assembly base in Asia.

The base construction means GE will be deeply involved in the construction of clean energy in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and South China.

Early this month, a 5.5-MW unit of an offshore wind project in Yangjiang city was integrated into the grid, the first unit in the 400-MW project, which will be put into use completely next year, supplying 1.46 TWh of power each year.

Guangdong has made a big stride in the offshore wind power development. Currently, it has 180 GW in operation, and 1.5 GW of projects are under construction.

By end-2030, it will put 30 GW of offshore wind capacity into use, making the province as the largest of this kind in China, which can provide 90 TWh of power each year.

China installed over 20 GW of wind power capacity in 2018, taking its cumulative capacity to over 200 GW. The country will continue to add large wind power capacities to reach over 400 GW by the end of 2030.
