HKMAG chooses full founding members and appoints new committee xinde marine news 2019-10-11 14:45

The Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group has chosen eight founding full members and appointed its new five-member committee.

The eight founding full members are maritime arbitrators including four arbitrators from the shipping industry and four arbitrators from the legal profession. The selection was made from a clinical analysis of the number and frequency of maritime arbitral appointments over the last five years.

The founding full members are:

Arthur Bowring

Edward Alder

Captain FC Lee,

Chris Howse,

Danny Mok,

Andrew Sheppard

Bill Amos

The five-member Committee is Arthur Bowring – President, Honorary Secretary – Chris Howse, Danny Mok and Andrew Sheppard.

On 25 September 2019, HKMAG was confirmed as one of the Hong Kong arbitral institutions recognized for the purposes of applications to the mainland China courts for interim measures under article 2(1) of the Arrangement Concerning Mutual Assistance on Court-ordered Interim Measures in Aid of Arbitral Proceedings by the Courts of the Mainland and Hong Kong SAR.

HKMAG was originally established in 2000 as a division of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. The specific nature of the maritime industry and its disputes have warranted the establishment of a focused specialist body to bolster Hong Kong’s position as a maritime arbitration centre.
