The installed capacity of wind power in eastern China's Jiangsu province stood at 27.66 GW as of the end of June 2019, accounting for 21% of China's total, according to a new energy forum held in Jiangsu.

Offshore wind power capacity in the province reached 3.4 GW, 80% of the country's total. Solar power capacity was 14.05 GW, ranking second in China, said Yuan Huanming, counsel with the provincial energy bureau.

Yancheng, as a major renewable energy base in Jiangsu, took 27%, 7.54 GW in total, of installed renewable energy capacity in the province, Yuan said.

Wind power capacity installed in the city was 5.45 GW, 59% of the province's total. Around a half of China's installed offshore wind capacity was from the city.

Jiangsu province has approved 24 offshore wind power projects with a total capacity of 6.7 GW in January this year, as part of its 10 GW-level offshore wind power plan known as "Three Gorges on the Sea".

These projects are expected to be completed before the end of 2020, according to Xinhua News Agency.

China plans to build seven large-scale wind power generation plants in Jiangsu, Gansu, Hebei, Jilin, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia in 2020.
