China tests its first homebuilt LNG-fueled ro-ro ship xinde marine news 2019-05-27 16:07

China's first homebuilt roll-on/roll-off(ro-ro) vessel propelled by both traditional fuel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) left the shipyard on Wednesday in Xiamen City of east China's Fujian Province for sea trials.

The vessel has 13 decks for carrying trucks, cars, trailers and hydrogen-fueled new energy vehicles with four liftable decks designed to ship cars of different sizes.

"There are four liftable decks for transporting cars of different sizes. The second main characteristic is that it has two 1,800-cubic meter LGN tanks, the world's largest used on a vessel," said Liu Haizhen, general manager assistant of the Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry.

The auto transport trailer is the world's largest LNG fueled ro-ro vessel and has two huge LNG tanks fueling main engines, generators and boilers.

The ro-ro ship will undergo a variety of sea trials before its delivery to Siem Car Carriers by November this year.

The ship was developed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute and designed by the Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. It is 199.9 meters in length, 38 meters in width and capable of carrying 7,500 cars.
