Beibu Gulf Port Co., Ltd. has announced the sudden passing of its Chairman, Mr. Zhou Shaobo, who succumbed to illness on January 23, 2025, at the age of 59.
This unexpected loss has drawn significant attention from the maritime and logistics industry, as Mr. Zhou was a pivotal figure in the development and operation of the company.
Mr. Zhou was appointed Chairman of Beibu Gulf Port in October 2023, after a distinguished career spanning decades in corporate and public service roles. Under his leadership, Beibu Gulf Port continued its trajectory as a major player in regional and international trade. His expertise extended beyond the boardroom; he held key positions in organizations such as Beibu Gulf Holdings (Hong Kong), Brunei’s Muara Port Company, and the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park.
To ensure stability, Beibu Gulf Port has confirmed that Vice Chairman Mo Nu will temporarily assume the duties of Chairman, as per the company’s charter. Operations remain unaffected, and all activities are proceeding as scheduled. The board is committed to expediting the selection of a new Chairman to ensure continuity in leadership and strategy.
Mr. Zhou’s career was marked by remarkable achievements. A senior economist with a UK MBA, he served in numerous high-profile roles, including as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Beibu Gulf International Port Group. His tenure also included influential positions in asset management, governance, and regional trade promotion.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Zhou was a respected member of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region's political advisory committees, contributing to policy and economic development strategies.
His passing marks a profound loss not only for Beibu Gulf Port but for the maritime and logistics industries. His dedication and vision have left an enduring legacy that will continue to shape the company and the region.
