Last week, Evergreen Marine announced its fleet expansion plan for ordering twenty 11,000 containerships, containing 8 new buildings and 12 vessels on charter.
The decision was taken at a board meeting held on 12 January.
“Evergreen Marine Corp emphasises that the aim of these newbuilding programmes is to meet future market demand and to continue with its ongoing fleet renewal,” the company said in a statement.
“With the delivery of the new ships, Evergreen will redeliver older chartered vessels upon expiry of their charter periods to help optimise the efficiency of its operating fleet and enhance the competitiveness of its services.”
Evergreen has chartered twelve 11,000 TEU container ships from Shoei Kisen and Shoei Kisen will order 12 vessels at Imabari Shipbuilding then cahrter them to Evergreen after delivery.
The other new building eight ships hasn’t announced yet.
