China's limits on critical energy supplies to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) came into effect on Saturday, according to an announcement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Customs on Friday.
Beijing tightened exports of both crude oil and refined petroleum products to Pyongyang.
Meanwhile, China's complete ban on exporting iron, steel, other metals, as well as industry machinery and transport vehicles to DPRK also takes effect on Saturday.
The move is in line with the latest United Nations sanctions. It also follows an agreement to hold the first official talks between the DPRK and the Republic of Korea next week.
China's chief negotiator on the DPRK nuclear issue Kong Xuanyou said Beijing welcomes positive developments on the Korean Peninsula. Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has also urged all parties concerned to bring negotiations back on track.
