MSC LUCIANA Collided with Chinese Freighter
Sources from China Rescue & Salvage of Ministry of Transport shows on 0330 November 21, Mega container ship MSC LUCIANA collided with Chinese cargo ship SULIANHAIJI0118 in Bohai sea, 7 nm off Caofeidian port.
After MSC LUCIANA left Tianjin, it headed for Busan and collided with SULIANHAIJI0118 two or three hours after leaving. The starboard hull of SULIANHAIJI0118 was breached in mid area and massive water inflowed.
SAR ship BEI HAI JIU 119 (IMO 9763447) was sent to assist. A safety conference was held to carry out rescue operations risk assessment and scientific rescue towing program. Submersible pumps, leather belt, life basket, plugging blanket, Kling crane, rescue boats,etc. were prepared.
The damaged freighter was taken to Caofeidian and anchored. MSC LUCIANA was brought to anchor on Caofeidian anchorage with no information on her damages, however its sail schedule is mostly to be affected.
At 04:52, SULIANHAIJI0118 successfully seized the beach in the shallow sea, and all 16 crews were out of danger.
MSC LUCIANA, currently serving the 2M Union AFRICA EXPRESS ship route, IMO 9398383, dwt 138771, 11312 TEU, was built in 2009 with the flag of Panama belongs to the Mediterranean Shipping Company.
