World’s First 2000-ton Electric Ship Launched in China

On November 12, the world’s first 2000-ton new energy electric self-unloading ship launched in Nansha, Guangzhou which was built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited for Guangzhou Ruihua New Energy Electric Ship Development co., Ltd.

It is 70.5 meters in length, 13.9 meters in width and 4.5 meters in depth, designed draft 3.3 meters with 6 crews. It’s a steel cargo ship powered by lithium battery and super capacitor with bucket structure cargo hold, loading coal and mainly navigating on the Pearl River and other waters.

The world blank of the same tonnage inland river double electric driven bulk carrier has been filled with the completion of the ship. It has several breakthroughs including ship design, environmental protection, technological barriers and so on.

Under full load conditions, the maximum speed of the ship can reach 12.8km/h (about 7 knots) and navigate 80 kilometers after a two-hour recharge without consuming fuel, carbon, sulfur, PM2.5 particles and  other air pollutants so as to achieve zero exhaust emissions, reaching the highest level Ⅲ of “Inland River Green Vessel Regulations” .

Due to the above advantages, it can be actively promoted in the areas of passenger ships, ro-ro ships and engineering ships in the future.

The ship was launched by integral hoisting, with a current hull weight of about 600 tons. With a lightweight mobile warehouse, the cargo can be fully enclosed in the process of transportation, loading and unloading, and its coal unloading system is first accredited by the CCS (China Classification Society).
