1.The first POT-DeSOx Scrubber retrofitting project undertaken by Shandong Pure Ocean Technology Co.,Ltd (POT) in 2019 has recently completed the retrofitting design in CUD Shipyard, and successfully completed the lifting and positioning of scrubber tower.
 
2.The International Ballast Water Management Convention officially comes into force in China on Tuesday to protect marine ecosystems.The document requires signatory countries to install a ballast water management system in their ships to ensure water quality before discharging. This process could prevent the spread of harmful marine organisms from one region to another. 
 
3.China Navigation (CNCo) has signed a sale and leaseback deal with CDB Leasing for two modern handysize bulkers.Shenzhen-based CDB Leasing is paying $19.5m each for the ships with a three-year bareboat charter back to CNCo, brokers said.
 
4.Emirates National Oil Co (ENOC) has ended its direct involvement in tanker shipping after selling its two product tankers to Chinese interests.The Dubai-based oil company’s 46,500-dwt, IMO type 2 MR tankers Falcon Grace and Falcon Victory (both built 1999) are joining the fleet of China’s Zhejiang Changchang Shipping.
 
5.The Chinese general cargo ship Zhong Xing 689 sank near Pingtan of Fujian,on January 21, while it was heading to Pingtan from Shantou. At the time of the incident the ships was carrying 12 crew.Local authorities deployed two patrol boats and two helicopters, rescuing 11 of the crew, but one is still missing and the search operation is ongoing.
 
6.According to a Reuters report the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates has decided to ban the use of a type of ship exhaust cleaner, becoming the latest location to impose restrictions on so-called open-loop scrubbers, a port document showed.
 
7.COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited announced that the Company will establish its first greenfield subsidiary in South America by acquiring 60% stake in Terminales Portuarios Chancay S.A. (Chancay Terminal) from Volcan Compa?ía Minera S.A.A., (“Volcan”) for a total consideration of US$225million, with an initial payment of US$56million.
 
8.On the afternoon of January 22, 2019, Capt. Xu Lirong, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING, held talks with the Prime Minister of Georgia H.E. Mamuka Bakhtadze in Davos, Switzerland during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2019.
