Web Alert:The Guidelines on Cyber Security onboard ships xinde marine news 2019-01-16 16:27

BIMCO, CLIA, ICS, Intercargo, InterManager, INTERTANKO, IUMI, OCIMF and World Shipping Council have produced the 2018 (Ver 3) Guidelines on Cyber Security onboard ships which are attached for members' reference.

In 2017, the IMO adopted resolution MSC.428(98) on Maritime Cyber Risk Management in Safety Management System (SMS). The Resolution states that an approved SMS should take into account cyber risk management in accordance with the objectives and functional requirements of the ISM Code. It encourages administrations to ensure that cyber risks are appropriately addressed in safety management systems no later than the first annual verification of the company’s Document of Compliance after 1 January 2021.

This guidance provides additional information which should help members carry out proper risk assessments and include measures in their safety management systems to protect ships from cyber-incidents. A new dedicated annex provides measures that members should consider implementing to address cyber risk management in an approved SMS.

The guidelines can be viewed in the attachment on the end of the article.
