1.Aberdeen owner Sentinel Marine is spending £36m ($46m) on three new emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRVS).An unnamed Chinese yard is building the trio, named Cromarty Sentinel, Trafalgar Sentinel and Viking Sentinel.
 
2.Greece’s Goldenport Shipmanagement has booked dry bulk newbuildings at its favoured Chinese yard, for the first time in more than four years.The company has ordered a pair of firm 63,800-dwt ships at Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (CHI) Yangzhou.
 
3.According to BIMCO, Chinese regulators have updated part of its domestic emission control area (DECA) regulations, which apply from 1 January 2019. However,China has not placed a full ban on open-loop scrubbers, but could happen soon.
 
4.Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard group has launched an azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug that uses LNG for its main fuel, which will be operated in Ningbo Zhoushan Port.
 
5.The construction of a 600-tonne Coast Guard Administration (CGA) patrol ship by  the Taiwan-based shipbuilding company Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Corporation (JSSC) began in Kaohsiung.
 
6.Japanese ship building marine engineering and service company, Imabari Shipbuilding, with the cooperation of Marubeni Corporation, has secured a newbuilding order of twelve 11,000-TEU container carriers from Taiwan's Evergreen Line.
 
7.China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) announced on Jan 4th that Mr.Cao Desheng has been appointed as the Director of Maritime Safety Administration on January 2019.
 
8.Vietnam flag product tanker AULAC FORTUNE (IMO 9541277) suffered explosion and fire in the morning Jan 8 at Lamma Island Anchorage, Hong Kong, reportedly at 1130 Hong Kong time. At least 1 crew killed, 3 missing, 24 were rescued.
