On 14-16 November the World Ocean Council brings its renowned Sustainable Ocean Summit 2018 to Hong Kong for the first time.
Chaired by Hong Kong’s very own Kenneth Koo of TCC Group, SOS has gathered together a remarkable group of industry luminaries and government officials including Former president of the Seychelles, James Michel, UN Ocean Envoy, Ambassador Peter Thomson, and Hong Kong director of Marine, Maisie Cheng.
Ahead of SOS, former president Mr Michel declared: “I am honored to be addressing the World Ocean Council’s Sustainable Ocean Summit. The WOC has been leading private sector efforts to address ocean sustainability since 2009 by bringing together the diverse international ocean industry and investment community. The SOS is the only annual gathering of the global ocean business community dedicated to sustainable development and Corporate Ocean Responsibility.”
Paul Holthus, founding president and chief executive officer Of WOC, an international business alliance for corporate ocean responsibility, says: “With the theme of ‘Ocean sustainable Development – Connecting Asia and the World’ the SOS will deliver an extraordinary programme.”
Among the sessions taking place during the two-day summit is the Ocean Executive Forum, in the form of a plenary dialogue among the CEOs of all key ocean industry sectors. “It’s a convening of industry leaders unlike anything you will find in any other business conference or ocean event,” Mr Holthus enthuses.
Also scheduled are sessions on Women’s Leadership in Ocean and Coastal Business; Ocean 2030, which aims to project the future of all major ocean businesses from a sustainability perspective; the Ocean Investment Platform, which will look to the finance sector for investment in sustainable ocean development.
The inclusion of the Belt and Road initiative is now de-rigueur for any maritime event and the SOS is no exception. Its platform: One Belt, One Road, One Ocean will be offering something new in a consideration of ways that industry can collaborate in ensuring the Maritime Silk Road leads to a sustainable destination.
