The 20,000-TEU container ship was transferred from dry dock into the water in a shipyard of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province

The container ship is nearly 400 meters long, 80 meters longer than China's first homebuilt aircraft carrier. It is able to transport 20119 containers.

"In the past, ship buyers could only choose ship manufacturers from Japan, South Korea or Europe to build a 20,000-TEU container ship. The launch of our self-made 20,000-TEU container means that now the ship buyers can choose a Chinese ship manufacturer to build large container ships," said Zhu Ping, manager of the 20,000-TEU container ship project of the CSIC.

After the launch, the ship will undergo three-month equipment debugging and outfitting, and later a deep-sea test.
