South China takes precaution measures for upcoming typhoons xinde marine news 2018-09-14 14:25

Authorities in south China's Guangdong Province have been working round the clock since the beginning of the week to launch emergency responses and prevention plans in the face of Typhoons Barijat and Mangkhut.

Tropical Storm Barijat, the 23rd typhoon of the year, was formed on the South China Sea on Tuesday afternoon while Super Typhoon Mangkhut, the 22nd typhoon this year, is expected to exceed Typhoon Jebi as the strongest of the year.

As of 19:00 on Tuesday, all 10,242 fishing ships in Zhanjiang City were called back to harbor.

On Monday, the fishery administration of Hailing Island in Yangjiang City began issuing typhoon updates and alerted all fishing ships to return to harbor.

"Yesterday we came back to port and moored the ships against the gales," said a fisherman.

"The fishery department has sent out personnel to patrol the port around the clock. In the meantime, the monitoring office will keep the public informed of the latest updates about the typhoons. All the fishing ships have returned," said Pan Zhicong, vice director of a fishery administration office.

The tourism department of Hailing Island has also issued notices to various scenic spots and hotels, and some seaside scenic spots have been closed. Visitors were suggested to keep away from coastal areas and stay indoors.

In addition, fishing ships in Huizhou, Shantou, and Zhongshan were also called to return to port, with all PRD (Pearl River Delta) cities busy gearing up for the arrival of the typhoons.

Meanwhile, high-speed trains traveling connecting cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, as well as Hunan and Hainan provinces have been suspended until Sept 18. Some train services for inter-city rail lines have also ceased due to the typhoons.
