Xi'an International Trade and Logistics (ITL) Park and Latvia national railway company Latvian Railways (or Latvijas Dzelzcels) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Sept 2, aiming to create a new international China-Europe freight train line with minimal operating hours, high efficiency, low costs, and strong brand recognition.

Latvian Railways will provide Xi'an Port with rail, sea and road transportation services as well as customs clearance and warehousing services in Latvia and the Baltic Sea region, according to the agreement.

The two sides will work together to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and explore new international multimodal transport solutions.

In the area of technical cooperation, ITL Park and Latvian Railways will continue to operate according to the international freight market demand, providing efficient transportation solutions and advanced transportation tools, in an effort to create a cost-effective Eurasian international transport system.

Also, the two sides will have regular business exchange meetings, international trade fairs and academic exchanges on international logistics and transportation.

Edvins Berzins, chairman of Latvian Railways, said that the route from Latvian capital city of Riga to Xi'an can provide a better alternative for China-Europe freight trains. Businesses in countries such as Belarus and Kazakhstan stand to benefit greatly from the new route.

The cooperation will further leverage the advantages of both sides, improve the efficiency of the railway transportation system between Xi'an and European countries, reduce operating costs for the Chang'an China-Europe freight trains and provide a powerful boost to Xi'an enterprises looking to expand internationally.

In addition, it will further develop the railway and sea transportation advantages of Latvian Railways in the Eurasian Plate and the geographical advantage of Xi'an as the center of China.
