The container ship DALI that crashed into an American bridge is now fully repaired at a Chinese shipyard

In a remarkable display of expertise and resilience, the DALI container ship, which made headlines for its dramatic collision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, has been successfully repaired and returned to service, thanks to the outstanding efforts of Fujian Huadong Shipyard in China.

On the early morning of March 26, 2024, the DALI ship, suffering from intermittent engine failure, collided with the iconic Francis Scott Key Bridge while navigating the McHenry Channel in Baltimore, Maryland. The accident led to severe damage to the vessel, including the loss of its anchors, serious damage to the bow, and the destruction of key systems such as thrusters and electrical controls.

Following the accident, the DALI was brought to Fujian Huadong Shipyard on November 13, 2024, where an extensive repair process began. The repair work involved overhauling the ship's bow, cargo holds, machinery, hydraulic and electrical systems, and other complex structures. Given the scale of the damage, it was clear that the shipyard would need to deploy top-tier engineering and craftsmanship to restore the vessel to full working order.

The repair team, led by a dedicated production planning group, worked tirelessly to develop a comprehensive repair strategy, ensuring that the ship was not only restored but enhanced. Coordinating efforts across multiple departments—ranging from technical teams to quality control and safety—meant that every detail of the repair was executed with precision and care. The project adhered to the principle of combining repair and fabrication techniques, ensuring optimal results and efficiency.

In an impressive feat, the repair was completed 10 days ahead of schedule, with the DALI leaving the shipyard on January 12, 2025, ready to continue its global journey. The ship's swift recovery was met with high praise from the vessel's owners, who commended the shipyard for its professionalism and efficiency.

This success story highlights not only the technical prowess of Fujian Huadong Shipyard but also its commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. The repair of the DALI ship has not only enhanced the shipyard’s reputation but also set a benchmark for handling complex and high-profile projects in the maritime industry.

As the DALI ship embarks on its renewed journey, it serves as a reminder of the resilience and innovation within the global maritime industry. For Huadong Shipyard, this accomplishment further cements its reputation as a leader in the field, ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow with even greater expertise and service.
