Advanced Polymer Coatings announces Asia business expansion Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC 2024-10-23 11:21

Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC), the Ohio, USA-based protective tank coatings manufacturer, is expanding its business in Asia in response to a surge in demand for its world-leading products.

As the company ramps up to quadruple its manufacturing capacity with a new state-of-the-art automated manufacturing system, it announced the appointment of Anthony Aw to spearhead its sales and customer engagement in the Asian market.

Based in Singapore, Aw will focus on strengthening sales of the MarineLINE® protective cargo tank coating across the region, growing representation in China’s shipyards—a key area of growth—and developing strong relationships with the expanding customer base.

“This is just the start of our expansion in Asia,” explained Onur Yildirim, APC Global Marine Manager. “The appointment of Anthony Aw is part of APC’s strategic play to capitalize on the growing opportunities in the chemical and product tanker markets in Asia.

“Asia accounts for a majority of global chemical tanker demand, with the region playing a key role in the international transportation of chemicals and petroleum products. As chemical production facilities expand across the region, particularly in China, Singapore, and South Korea, the demand for reliable shipping solutions has surged.”

Captain Yildirim added: “In the chemical tanker sector, newbuilds in Asia are expected to grow in the years ahead. As our customer base grows, building a team in that region is crucial for supporting our customers with localized expertise and timely service. This ensures we can provide faster response times, technical support, and seamless coordination during the newbuild and refurbishment processes.

“As a result, regional shipyards are seeing a consistent rise in orders for new tankers and refurbishments to meet stringent environmental and safety regulations. China alone holds nearly 45% of the global newbuild orders for chemical tankers, making it a critical market for advanced coating solutions like MarineLINE®.”
Aw, who speaks fluent Mandarin and English as well as Thai, Malay, and Hokkien, has more than 20 years’ experience in the Marine and Oil & Gas industries with companies such as Quantum Marine Solutions and BP Singapore Pte Ltd. He has a strong track record in fostering customer relationships and driving revenue growth in the region.

"Bringing Anthony on board is a very strategic move for APC as we see long-term growth potential in Asia,” said Matt Sokol, APC's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “His deep expertise in navigating these industries, particularly in Singapore and China, positions APC to effectively target these opportunities. His familiarity with the region’s shipyards, regulatory environment, and customer base will allow APC to further penetrate the growing market. With Asia-Pacific leading that expansion, further highlighting the importance of having experienced management in place to capture market share. His presence in Singapore cements our commitment to the region and expanding our customer base."

MarineLINE® has been developed to give protection against thousands of highly aggressive chemicals and, consequently, protects cargo tanks from more International Maritime Organization-approved chemicals than any other coating in the world. Tanks are also quicker to clean with less harsh chemicals, saving significant time and money. APC has around 12 percent of the global chemical tanker coating market, with some 700 ships worldwide coated with MarineLINE®.
