On the morning of July 24th local time, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with CMA CGM Chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé in Marseille, France. This marks the second meeting between Vice President Han and Mr. Saadé within a year.
Vice President Han remarked that in May this year, President Xi Jinping's successful state visit to France included in-depth discussions with President Macron, leading to broad consensus and providing strategic guidance for the development of China-France and China-Europe relations. Han emphasized that CMA CGM has long been deeply involved in the Chinese market and has established strong cooperation with Chinese enterprises, significantly contributing to China-France economic and trade cooperation. He praised CMA CGM as a supporter, beneficiary, and promoter of economic globalization and free trade. Over the past 40 years, China has adhered to the fundamental policy of reform and opening-up, developing itself while benefiting the world. China will further expand high-level opening-up and continue to build a first-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized. He welcomed enterprises from around the world, including CMA CGM, to invest and develop in China.
Rodolphe SAADE warmly welcomed Vice President Han's visit to CMA CGM and expressed that China's development is full of opportunities. He stated that CMA CGM values its cooperation with Chinese partners and looks forward to further strengthening collaboration in areas such as energy transition, artificial intelligence, and robotics, contributing to win-win cooperation and the development of China-France relations.
Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan, who attended the meeting, expressed his honor in welcoming Vice President Han to Marseille. As a sister city of Shanghai, Marseille is willing to play a bridging role in city-to-city cooperation and local exchanges, further expanding and deepening China-France relations in the new era.
Headquartered in Marseille, CMA CGM is a globally renowned integrated logistics group and the largest container shipping company in France, ranking third worldwide. CMA CGM (China) Co., Ltd. was established in Shanghai in 1992, employing over 20,000 people in China, making it the first wholly French-owned shipping company in China.
During his stay in Marseille, Vice President Han also visited local specialized industrial projects, gaining insights into the local economy and culture.
It is noteworthy that on February 29th this year, Vice President Han also met with Rodolphe Saadé in Beijing.
