British Ports Association to highlight port issues during London International Shipping Week

Welcoming the launch of the third London International Shipping Week (LISW), today the British Ports Association’s Chief Executive Richard Ballantyne said: “London International Shipping Week is a unique occasion when the UK maritime sector comes together with customers, industry partners and government representatives. It is an unrivalled opportunity for the sector to gain profile and to influence the various tiers of government.

We are keen to use the occasion to highlight the challenges and opportunities UK ports currently face. As a UK-wide association we are also pushing for more of a national flavour, with greater cross sector scope.” The BPA feels that the week represents an excellent opportunity for the ports industry to promote its unique offer as well encourage more focus on creating a competitive policy and transport environment in the UK. Mr Ballantyne continued: “During LISW we hope to focus decision makers’ minds on potential challenges and opportunities for the sector. These include a trade friendly Brexit customs agreement, a faster and simplified planning regime for ports and investment in port connectivity and drives to reduce red tape including scrapping the Port Services Regulation after we leave the EU.” London International Shipping Week is held every two years and this year runs from 11-15 September 2017.
