New animation on accidental poisoning NorthStandard 2023-11-07 14:16

A new animation that aims to tackle accidental poisoning from drinking chemicals stored in water bottles has been made free to view for the shipping industry.

KARCO has released an animated video “Simple Mistake – Fatal Consequences”, which addresses the risk of poisoning based on real-life incidents at sea. In each of the scenarios, a person on board accidentally consumes poisonous substances when drinking from water bottles.

The consequences of using drinking water bottles to store chemicals can prove fatal. It may be tempting to use an empty water bottle to decant some other substance, but others may mistake it for a drink, especially if the liquid looks like water and the label says it is water.

Chemicals and cleaning fluids must only be stored in suitable containers that are properly labelled.
