Box throughput decline at the Port of Hong Kong accelerates in September Hong Kong Maritime Hub 2023-10-18 11:30


Except for February 2023, the uninterrupted year-on-year decline of container throughput at the Port of Hong Kong continued in September with a 14% fall off in boxes handled. The total throughput for September at all facilities was 1.197 teu.
 
Drilling down into the figures that Kwai Tsing terminals handled 922,000 teu, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 11.1%. Meanwhile midstream operators handled 275,000 teu, 22.3% fewer boxes than in September 2022.
 
The cumulative total at all facilities for the first nine months of the year is 10.765m teu, some 14.8% fewer boxes than those handled during the first nine months of 2022.
