Xinde Marine Forum Singapore 2023 “Solutions for Shipping Decarbonization” Successfully Held! xinde marine news 2023-05-05 10:56

During Singapore Martime Week, Xinde Marine Forum was successfully held on Friday (April 28) in Westin Singapore.


The theme of this forum, “Solutions for Shipping Decarbonization,”, aims to facilitate exchanges among China, Singapore, and the global shipping industry and jointly discuss win-win solutions against profound changes in the decarbonization of the industry.

Organized by Xinde Marine News, sponsored by RMI, and co-sponsored by Seacon Shipping, Oneglobal, RightShip, and IMC SHIPPING, the forum was made possible by the support of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), China Classification Society (CCS), Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), World Shipping Council (WSC), UNIMEX Global Maritime Elite Platform and the Singapore Alumni Association of Dalian Maritime University!


Mr. Kenneth Lim, Assistant Chief Executive (Industry & Transformation) of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Ms. Caroline Yang, President of the Singapore Shipping Association, and Prof Lynn Loo, CEO of Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonization (GCMD), were invited to deliver the opening keynote addresses.


The forum consisted of four panel discussions. The topics are

“How to comply with the green shipping regulations?”
“Development and application of alternative fuels in the shipping industry.”
“New technologies and innovations drive the shipping industry towards decarbonization.”
“The Pathways, Challenges and Opportunities for Shipping Decarbonization.”
 
Panel 1: How to comply with the green shipping regulations?”

The first panel discussion was hosted by Mr. Wayne Zhuang, Regional Manager of Asia of BIMCO and the members included: Ms. Wang Mingming Business Development Manager of CCS Singapore, Mr. Dean Loveridge, Global Decarbonization Manager of RightShip, Mr. Kai Cheong (KC) Wong, Senior Technical Director of INTERTANKO and Mr. Carl Schou, President&CEO of Wilhelmsen Ship Management.

Started from IMO's EEXI and CII ratings and EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime introduced by the EU, the discussion analyzed the impact of these regulations on all parties in the industry, and provided suggestions on how to deal with them.


Panel 2: Development and application of alternative fuels in the shipping industry.”

Hosted by Ms. Susana Germino, GM Sustainability& Decarbonization of Swire Shipping/ Swire Bulk, the members of the second panel included Mr. Chris Chatterton, COO of Methanol Institute, Mr. Koh Eng Kiong, Director of Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonization, Ms. Erin Xu Yang, Managing Director of CHIMBUSCO Intl Petroleum (Singapore) Pte Ltd and Mr. Khorshed Alam, Senior Vice President of Maritec (CTI-Group).

Susana introduced Swire Shipping's practices and attitudes towards shipping alternative fuels, and discussed with the panelists the advantages and disadvantages of various fuels, including LNG, methanol, ammonia. They also talked about their current position in the shipping industry regarding fuel production, bunkering,  testing and research.



After the halftime tea break, Mr. Steen Lund, RightShip CEO, delivered a keynote address titled "Digitization and Decarbonization together to achieve sustainable shipping ".


Panel 3: New technologies and innovations drive the shipping industry towards decarbonization.”

The third discussion was moderated by Mr. Jianjun Wang, Head of Business Development of Oneglobal, and panelists included Mr. Mingfa Liu, Managing Director of IMC Ship Services, Capt. Alvin Jiang of CSSC Energy (Singapore) Pte Ltd, Ms. Yvette van der Sommen, Director Asia Pacific of Value Maritime and Mr. David Barrow, VP South Asia of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore – Singapore.

Presided by Mr. Jianjun Wang, the guests discussed the preparation and application of the new decarbonization technology in the shipping industry and analyzed the economy, safety, operability and other issues of the new technology. Shipborne carbon capture technology is specially introduced in detail.


Panel 4: The Pathways, Challenges and Opportunities for Shipping Decarbonization.”

Moderated by Mr. Chih Chwen Heng, Director of Shipping Finance at Standard Chartered Bank Singapore, the guest members of the fourth discussion included Mr. Mick Aw, Chairman of Moore Stephens Singapore, Mr. Joshua Lau, Director of the Shipping Team APAC of BNP PARIBAS, and Capt. Raymond Peter, Managing Director of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Singapore) PTE. LTD and Ms. Yindi Luo, Long Term Tonnage APAC Lead of Cargill Ocean Transportation (S) Pte Ltd.

The panel discussed the Poseidon Principles, the Charter for Maritime Cargo and other decarbonization alliances that had emerged in the shipping industry, illustrating the different situations, differentiated appropriate or adopted ways to decarbonization, various challenges and opportunities facing different cooperations.


With over 200 guests from 100 companies in attendance, the Xinde Marine Forum 2023 held in Singapore got a resounding success!
