On March 14, China issued a Plan to promote the development of sea-rail combined transport from 2023-2025. It aims to promote the green and low-carbon development of transport.
By 2025, all major ports along the Yangtze River will have access to ports by railway, and 90% of major coastal ports will have access to ports by railway. The volume of sea-rail combined at major ports reached 14 million teus, with an average annual growth rate of over 15%. Major coastal ports in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and its surrounding areas, the Yangtze River Delta, the Greater Bay Area and other major coastal ports use railways, new-energy vehicles etc to transport bulk cargo, accounting for 80%.
China will promote "bulk carrier converted into container" transport, promote grain, chemical fertilizer, copper concentrate, bauxite, cement clinker, coke and other bulk cargo carried by container ship.
China will promote the application of 5G, Beidou navigation, blockchain and AI in the water transport.
China has announced plans for 74 major port projects with a total investment of 170.806 billion yuan. By the end of 2022, the total investment has reached 27.795.5 billion yuan.
