Job Description
The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will initially be:
· Data mining and extraction from a wide range of sources and media in relation to specific shipping markets.
· Reviewing data for accuracy, relevance, integrity and alignment.
· Structuring, updating and interpreting large high-frequency in-house databases.
· Managing database projects and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to improve the content and quality of MSI’s in-house databases.
· Working alongside senior analysts on MSI’s econometric models and online valuation service.
· Contributing to regular reports and consultancy projects.
· Providing support to internal colleagues and MSI’s clients in the shipping and financial services industries.
· Actively developing and maintaining a network of industry contacts.
· Maintaining responsibility for personal development, including training, with a view to taking on additional roles at an accelerated pace. This will involve management, brand-building, marketing and business development opportunities.
Candidate Requirements
The work will be carried out in close collaboration with our senior analysts and management team both in Singapore and London. The ideal candidate will have:
· A degree in a numerate or analytical subject, or have significant experience in a similar role through internships and / or previous full-time employment.
· Experience in data handling, optimisation models or economic / mathematical modelling.
· An advanced knowledge of standard software applications, including those used for data storage, analysis and publishing. This includes Microsoft Office, primarily Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Power BI, VBA, C++ and / or Python is highly advantageous.
· Commercial awareness of the maritime and offshore industries is desirable.
· Exceptional literacy and analytical skills, with the ability to analyse and present information in a clear and coherent way. Prior experience at presenting is advantageous.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (English). Business proficiency in a second language, particularly Mandarin, Japanese or Korean is preferable.
· Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team.
