Shanghai has taken a string of measures to ensure smooth transportation of containers and supplies of main energy since the resurgence of COVID-19 in the city.
Shanghai shifted from road to water transportation together with other ports in the Yangtze River Delta to ensure timely transportation.
The COSCO Shipping Lines(Shanghai) Co., Ltd, initiated closed-loop working system to provide stable service for more than 1,400 ships sailing globally and its 58 wharfs across the world.
"We have 95 container transportation lines passing Shanghai's port. Every week we have 35 ships arriving in Shanghai. We now mainly use short distance trailers and barges working together to ease the tension of truck shortage. We've seen 20 percent of increase in barge transportation volume," said Yuan Hao, deputy general manager of COSCO Shipping Lines(Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
Since April, Shanghai has sent 1,670 intermodal containers on average every day by sea-railway combined transportation, up by 25.8 percent from the first quarter of this year. Shanghai Port can handle over 100,000 intermodal containers every day, according to Zhang Wei, deputy mayor of Shanghai, on Friday.
To guarantee coal supply for power plants in Shanghai, the COSCO Shipping Lines(Shanghai) Co., Ltd, had transported 730,000 tons of coal by 21 ships. At the same time, the company transported 350,000 tons of petroleum.
