Egypt's Suez Canal under partial widening renovation to prevent ships running aground CCTV 2022-03-31 10:45

The Suez Canal Authority celebrated on Tuesday the one-year anniversary of the flotation of the container ship Ever Given.

The Ever Given ship, Panamanian-flagged and Japanese-owned ship, ran aground in the Suez Canal on March 23, 2021. The Suez Canal Authority succeeded in floating it six days after the grounding.

As part of the celebration, a documentary recorded the rescue was screened, with awards given to the individuals making outstanding performance in the rescue process.

Addressing a press briefing, Osama Rabie, the head of the authority, elaborated on the canal's ongoing upgrading project, involving widening the southern section by 40 meters and lengthening the existing two-way stretch of the canal by another 10 kilometers.

Rabie also mentioned no conspicuous impact induced by the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the shipping via the Suez Canal, the authority also pledged fees collection adjustment on ships passing through the critical waterway in accordance with the changing situation.
