China ports container volumes rise 7pc to 283m TEU in 2021 HKSG Group 2022-02-09 10:18

The container throughput of Chinese ports was 282.7 million TEU in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 7 per cent, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China.

The statistics show that Shanghai port topped the table in container throughput, reaching over 47.03 million TEU, an 8.1 per cent increase compared to 2020 levels.

Second highest container throughput was the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, reaching 31.08 million TEU, reports London's Port Technology.

Beibu Gulf Port saw the biggest increase in container throughput, enjoying increases of 19 per cent to just over 6 million TEU for 2021. Only two major Chinese ports saw declines in throughput on the year. Those will decreased volumes included the Port of Dalian, seeing its throughput nosedive by 28.1 per cent to 3.67 million TEU. The Port of Yinkou also fell by 7.8 per cent to 5.21 million TEU.
